With a vision to promote industrial revolution in newly independent country, many industrial areas were established among which Korangi Industrial area was one of them. The importance of Korangi Industrial area was not over emphasized due to its geographical location being in the center of the city and very near to ports. The entrepreneurs were allocated industrial plots in order to encourage establishing industrial units at Korangi Industrial area.

The prominent businessmen at that time came forward to establish industrial units and Late Haji Fazal-ur-Rehman was among them. With his business acumen and vision, he realized that a proper platform was needed, where all the industrialists did their joint efforts to promote Korangi Industrial Area and find way and means to enhance business activities; and further to act as a bridge between public and private sectors.

With this vision, Late Haji Fazal-ur-Rehman in 1970 with his few peers established Korangi Association of Trade & Industry. The seed which was planted in 1970 now become a large shady tree and fulfilling the objectives set by its leaders.

Korangi Association of Trade & Industry is now a duly licensed and accredited by the Directorate Trade Organization, Ministry of Commerce Government of Pakistan, Islamabad as being the only representative of Korangi Industrial area.

Korangi Industrial area covers over 10000 acres of land having over 5000 industrial, commercial, and service industries including two main oil refineries of the country, it contributed approximately Rs.600 million on daily basis to the national exchequer. Around 1.5 million skilled and un-skilled workers commute daily from different parts of the city to this industrial area.

Korangi Association of Trade & Industry is the powerful voice of Korangi Industrial area and effectively presents the essential policy agenda that helps industrial & economic development of this growing & expanding industrial area. This enables to fetch substantial revenue and foreign exchange for further enhancement of the country’s economy and create jobs for the betterment of the country.
